Here at The Manor we like to take our food seriously, we cook up the best of British (without being shy of some overseas influences now and again), using great ingredients from suppliers we trust. Our kitchen is tucked away below stairs like the manor houses of old and in there we bake cakes, brownies, scones and puddings, cook up fabulous specials if you fancy a treat or bake our jacket potatoes and blitz our soups if a lighter lunch is what you’re looking for. All our sandwich fillings are made here, our breakfasts are cooked to order and whether you want a slice of toast or the Manor House Full English beast someone will take care that it’s done properly.
We think that a good old fashioned approach to cooking is the right way, you won’t find the most expensive cuts covered in foams and reductions but you will find plenty of tasty dishes whatever your budget. We smoke our own meat, fish and cheese, and in charge of our preserves is the fabulous Mrs P (Chef’s Mum) who grows loads of amazing fruit and veg on her Yorkshire allotment and, along with Mr P, turns them into jams, marmalades and chutneys. We like to turn our hand to a bit of preserving too with pickles and our own Manor chutneys often appearing on our specials. We cook in small batches so you’ll always be getting fresh food at its best but, when it’s gone, it’s gone so if you see something you like, come and grab it
Just want a drink? No problem – Our coffee is a tip top dark roast blend, we serve a wide range of clipper teas and a most delicious hot chocolate. We stock interesting soft drinks including Fentimans & Bottle Green. Compliment your meal with a beer, a glass of carefully selected wine or spice up that hot drink with a shot of rum or baileys – perfect!
We pride ourselves on sourcing food and drink responsibly, our meat & fish is fresh and of quality provenance, the eggs free range. We have selected ethical coffee and fair-trade tea. Our hope is that the careful sourcing of products and paying that little bit extra is reflected in the quality of our meals.
A quick look back over the food scandals of recent years shows that it pays to be careful about what we eat and that cheap meat, fish or even veggies are cheap for a reason and that reason is almost always not good. There is no doubt that it has been tricky starting and running a business with the economy in trouble but we have always been clear that we will not compromise our standards for anything. Below are links to our meat and fish suppliers outlining their commitment to providing great produce;
